An Elegy

Fast in sleep?
Enjoy the honey dew of slumber.
thou has no figures nor no fantasies,
which busy care draws in the brains of men
therefore thou sleep so sound.

My piece meant not thy sleep disturbe:
nor the shriek of my voice distress thee
for thy gentle soul in Christ’s bliss rested.

O thy parchments, cassock, rope,
and holy communion cups etcetera –
sweet memory of thy tender eloquence
in the vineyard left for us to tender.

Debby’s holding the pulpit,
Eben’s keeping thy cassock warm,
Gloria’s tending to the sick,
Ireti’s teaching the kids,
Folorunsho’s filming the church,
Gbenga’s caring for the whole man,
Beatrice’s holding the fort of faith.

for thy back is honorable.
